The Urban Sector Policy & Management Unit (the Urban Unit) has been working with the Planning & Development Department (Government of the Punjab) since 2006. The Urban Unit put together a team of highly qualified and experienced professionals. The Unit offers free of cost technical assistance and research facility to provincial and local governments on urban management projects.  Primarily, the Unit provides services in the areas of land use planning, solid waste management, water supply & sanitation, urban transport and municipal finance, along with cross-cutting themes like geo-graphic information system (GIS), environment and urban economics. 

In order to encourage innovative research and policy analysis on urban issues in Pakistan, the Urban Unit has launched ‘Pakistan Journal of Urban Affairs’. The journal is also expected to bridge the gap between academic research and public and private urban sector professionals and organizations.
